Street Improvement Program Happening Around Montrose Shopping Park Through Oct.

The 60-day program involves laying surry seal on streets and parking lots as well as replacing and fixing some sidewalks.

The city of Glendale is undergoing a major street improvement program in and near the Montrose Shopping Park through October, and work began recently.

The construction is primarily going to involve the laying of slurry seal along Honolulu Avenue and its surrounding streets, as well as a few resurfacing of some streets and other improvements to sidewalks and curbs.

Slurry seal is a wet liquid asphalt mixture that "prolongs service life and restores the appearance of the pavement and prevent further deterioration of the pavement to a point when the street well need resurfacing or reconstruction," according to the city.

The project began recently and is scheduled to last 60 days. It will include laying slurry seal on city parking lots, including the lot on Market Street just south of Honolulu. The city is also installing a new sidewalk on the east side of Market Street between Honolulu and Broadview Drive, and auto traffic has been closed off south of Honolulu. The street slurry seal program also includes most the streets south of Honoulu down to to La Crescenta Avenue.

Other improvements the city will be making in and near the shopping park are curb repairs, pruning of tree roots, selective removal and repair of broken and damaged sidewalks and curbs, adjustment of existing manholes and water meters to finished grade, removal and replacement of existing traffic striping and pavement marking.
