Robert Coutts
Robert Coutts majored in Physics at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan and taught Physics at Van Nuys High until retiring a few years ago. He was a Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellow at Princeton University and taught Physical Science for the Department of Geology at CSUN, where he currently serves as a science teacher supervisor. He is also a board member of Save Open Space, an environmental preservation organization based here in Agoura.
Robert's backpacking experience includes four ascents to the top of Mt. Whitney and a 45 mile, five-day trans-Sierra trek from Bishop to Fresno. His favorite local hike is from his house near Deerhill Park in Oak Park to his friend's house at the end of Victory Boulevard in Woodland Hills and back, via Palo Commado Canyon, Chesebro Canyon and the Ahmanson Ranch trail net work. Robert's travel experience includes a three-week stint aboard the Academic Vavalov, a Russian Antarctic Expedition ship, traveling from Ushuaia at the southern tip of Argentina to the Falkland Islands, on to South Georgia, one third of the way to South Africa, and returning through 60-knot Antarctic gales and 30-foot swells via the Antarctic Peninsula. Robert is a photographer (dolphinsflite.smugmug.com), a poet and an author of children's books and books of poetry, available online via Shutterfly. His photograph, " Frog Factory," was selected for exhibition at the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum.
