Anti-Stadium Violence Measure Passes Assembly

Authored by Montrose-La Crescenta Assembly Rep. Mike Gatto, the bill would require California major league teams to post contact numbers for stadium security.

Assembly Bill 2464, the Improving Personal Safety at Stadiums Act, passed the Assembly, Thursday, by a unanimous 71-0 vote. Authored by Montrose Assembly representative Mike Gatto, the bill was inspired by increased fan violence at pro stadiums, including the Bryan Stow beating last March at Dodger Stadium. The bill requires major league stadiums in California to post numbers for calls or texts to contact stadium security about fan violence. The signs must be visible from the stands and in parking lots.  In a press release Gatto says it is security--not police--who is best poised to put down violent incidents, since security is inside the stadium. St. Francis Rides Strong into State Championship

The Golden Knights head to Los Olivos to finish off the season and compete against high school teams from the NorCal league at the State Championships on Sunday.

The following article was written by St. Francis High School Cycling Coach Lee Bird. Bird coaches several Montrose-La Crescenta students.  The St. Francis High School mountain bike team competed in the fifth and final regular season event of the SoCal league series at Lake Arrowhead, CA earlier this month. The race was crucial for overall season awards and the “thin-air” of the mountains tested all of the riders. Once again, the Golden Knights rose to the challenge and finished strong in this race, and overall for the season. The Lake Arrowhead course turned out to be very dry and dusty, unlike the muddy course that the riders faced last year. Besides the altitude and dust, the riders faced a tough 1.2 mile long fire road climb at the end …

Road to Olympics: U.S. Men's Water Polo to Play Croatia

Locals are invited to a exhibition match featuring the U.S. Men's Water Polo Team against Croatian Men's National Water Polo Team on June 1 at the Rosebowl Aquatics Center.

A fierce match on the road to London's Olympic games is pitting the U.S. Men's National Water Polo Team against the Croatian Men's National Water Polo Team on June 1 at the Rosebowl Aquatics Center.  Fans are invited to witness the rivalry at 5:30 p.m., June 1 at the Rosebowl Aquatics Center, 360 North Arroyo Blvd., Pasadena. Following the game there will be a poolside gala dinner with both teams.  This is the final game for the U.S. Team before departing to London for the Olympics.  “We are honored to host this game and to celebrate some of our nation’s finest athletes who have made significant sacrifices and a tremendous commitment to represent the United States,” said Kurt Knop, executive director of the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.    “…

Third Annual CV CAN Games Celebrate Athletes

More than 300 athletes participated in Special Olympics held at Crescenta Valley High School.

Nonprofit Crescenta Valley Committed to Athletic Needs (CV CAN) welcomed participants from far and wide, from cities such as Santa Barbara, Long Beach, and Bakersfield, to the CV CAN Games. More 300 athletes competed in the games Saturday at Crescenta Valley (CV) High School, which helped determine athlete qualifications for the Special Olympics Summer Games.  Athletes of all ages trained and prepared over the past year to compete in a number of walks, runs, relays and field events. Rafer Johnson, Olympic Gold Medalist and founding father of the California Special Olympics, attended the games as the Master of Ceremonies. Awards for races were given throughout the day with periodic performances by CV High School’s band and cheerleaders. “…

Meet Dylan Hsu, a Montrose Patch t-ball all-star player who attends Monte Vista Elementary School.

Dylan Hsu is a Montrose Patch t-ball player with three years of experience at bat.  The first grader at Monte Vista Elementary School and prefers to play third base, but has been playing pitcher, which helps him use his accurate throwing and field skills.   Dylan learns Mandarin Chinese and also has a two-year-old brother Jake.
