I must say that I do not usually comment on articles online. in fact, this is the first time in aRead More long career. But I felt I needed to call this woman out on her horrible attitude. I witnessed a very kind, gentle man asking this woman if he could take a picture of one of her paintings. She aggressively asked him, "Why? What was the reason?" The man responded that he simply wanted to show his wife. She acquiesced and then launched into a diatribe about how some people actually "have the nerve" to ask her to take a picture of her work because they want to go home and take a swing at reproducing it. This woman's attitude is abhorent. It is so unbelievably ungenerous that I find it hard to believe she is an artist (and a middling one at that). I happen to be a filmmaker. And yes, humbly, my work is known internationally. What I have always held dear is that artists and their work are meant to encourage, to motivate, to inspire, to uplift the human condition and above all, to be generous. That is being a true artist. If a person wants to take a picture of something she has created and is then inspired enough to want to attempt to reproduce it, that should be enough. Filmmakers borrow from other filmmakers work all the time. And painters and photographers do as well. The singular vanity and selfishness of this woman caused me shame as an artist. Not because she isn't trying to ply her trade to the best of her ability, but because she wanted to close the door on others perhaps wanting to do so. This woman should not be lauded. She should be ashamed. Her actions were disgusting. And I suspect that in life, her lack of generosity will cause her to forever fail in achieving that which she desires the most...to be a true artist.

Hi - my gardener charges me $30, and he comes every other week - this doesn't cover much, but itRead More covers: blowing leaves (and disposing of them), ripping out dead plants, trimming the grass and weed-whacking. Sometimes, I'll point something out (like a palm tree that needs a trim), and he'll do that. The main thing is the leaves - we have FOUR oak trees, and our lawn and driveway are blanketed by leaves to an insane extent.

Can anyone recommend a good investment counselor?
B.K. Holthaus May 17, 2013 at 12:50 pm
I retired at 48. A really intelligent money manager or investment counselor is a must. I pay out ofRead More pocket for health and dental insurance. But my home and car are paid for and I have no debts. It's easier to retire when those things fall into place.

Impairment is impairment, we should ban everybody from driving. One glass of water, life time banRead More from driving. Failing to have loaded gun in the car, lifetime ban on driving. Voted Democrat, life time ban on driving.

Yes. Impairment is impairment. It's amazing (and sad) how overconfident people are about theirRead More ability to drive when impaired (by drink or drug) or distracted (by cell phones). There are abundant studies that show such people's confidence in their abilities is misplaced. It is reasonable for society to expect that people who are at the control of what is in effect a guided missile weighing thousands of pounds be competent to guide it properly.

I think it honorable to recognize a man who devoted five years of his life to service at the C.V.Read More Sheriff Dept. If you allow me, I wish to speak of a Deputy who donated his whole life while he served at the old Montrose Sheriff Station. back in the fifties. He was shot to death while investigating a call to a house situation. His name was David A. Hore. His children, if any, are still without a Father, his wife, if still alive is still without her husband. For a time, his picture hung in the old station on Ocean View, but that was so long ago and not worthy of any memory or tangible memory at the new station. I never knew him, I live in Oklahoma, and yet I remember him. Your feel good momentary accolades are a stench in my nostrils. Please put a pic or something in your most proper new station...to remember..officer David A. Horr (sp?) Bob Fishback
