La Crescenta Library to Receive 10,000 Korean Books

Los Angeles County library officials joined Korean philanthropists and local leaders in accepting about 10,000 books written in Korean. These items will be catalogued and line the shelves of La Crescenta Library.

About 10,000 Korean books were shipped by boat across the Pacific from Korea to Los Angeles, and will soon line the shelves at .

Crescenta Valley Town Councilmember James Suh, Ph.D., learned about a Korean language book donation program happening at a library in Cerritos. He contacted the Campaign Association of the Book Supplying for Overseas Koreans.

"I told them that there is a large Korean American group in La Crescenta," Suh told Patch.

Suh didn't realize the response he would get. The organization decided to donate 10,000 books to the library and on July 26 local leaders celebrated the arrival of the first batch of nearly 5,000 books.

The books were sent through customs at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro. They will be catalogued through the Los Angeles County Library system for locals to check out.
