Frozen Freebies at 7-Eleven From '11 to Seven' Wednesday

Beat the heat on July 11 by ducking into the 7-Eleven on Montrose Avenue and grabbing a free 7.11-ounce Slurpee beverage.

As the heat wave sweeping the Southland intensifies, temperatures in Montrose-La Crescenta are expected to hit a high of 95 degrees Wednesday.

By a happy coincidence, July 11 happens to be the day every year that the convenience store chain 7-Eleven celebrates its birthday by offering free frozen drinks.

Participating stores across the nation, including the , will give away 7.11-ounce Slurpee drinks from “eleven to seven”—predictably, that is, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Wednesday. Click here to access the 7-Eleven store locator, which highlights stores within a given zip code.

The convenience store chain has given away millions of free Slurpee beverages on July 11 since 2002. The company estimates this year’s birthday—its 85th—to be its biggest to date as 7-Eleven stores prepare to give away 7 million free Slurpee drinks.

Participating stores also invite customers to peel, play and win "Big Summer Sweeps" game pieces found on specially marked products. The contest, which will continue through the end of August, includes prizes such a PepsiMax VIP trip package to the football championship or a BMW Motorbike F800 GS.

Typically, 7-Eleven stores warn that the best way to ensure that you don’t miss out on an icy treat is to arrive early before limited supplies of the Slurpees run out.

Evidently, that’s not a concern the 7-Eleven store on Colorado Boulevard shares. Asked twice whether thirsty customers should come in early to claim their Slurpees, an employee who answered the phone emphatically replied in somewhat shaky English: “No, no—eleven to seven!”
