SGV Eliminated From Contention in Babe Ruth World Series

SGV loses 4-0 to Ottumwa, Iowa on Monday to fall to 0-3 in World Series play.

The San Gabriel Valley Babe Ruth 16-18 All-Stars have enjoyed plenty of success in previous trips to the Babe Ruth World Series. Since 2004 the program has claimed three championshps under coach Phil Torres (who also coaches the Crescenta Valley varsity baseball team).

But there will be no fourth title for SGV -- at least not this year. San Gabriel Valley lost 4-0 to Ottumwa, Iowa, on Monday night at Johnson-O’Brien Stadium in Ephrata, Wash. The loss dropped the SGV All-Stars to 0-3 in pool play, eliminating them from the single elimation tournament that begins Thursday.

As has been the case throughout the entire tournament, SGV was undone by one bad inning. SGV opened the game with four straight walks and a double from Ottumwa staked the club to a 3-0 lead.
