Rosemont Student Qualifies for National Water Polo Championship

La Crescenta resident Audrey Taylor is headed to the 2011 USA Water Polo Turbo Champions Cup in Bloomington, Indiana.

Eighth grader student Audrey Taylor is preparing to tread water and score big next weekend at the 2011 USA Water Polo Turbo Champions Cup in Bloomington, Indiana.

The student and her Rose Bowl Aquatics Center water polo team will compete in at least five games at the national championships.

Following the team's success against Southern California's top teams in the regional qualifier this month, the girls' team qualified to travel outside California for the first time in the program's history.

“We look forward to representing Rose Bowl Water Polo, as well as the entire San Gabriel Valley at the National Championships, “ said Adam Roth, Head Coach, Girls Water Polo in a news release.

“Only the top two teams from every zone qualify for this championship and for our team to qualify so early in the season shows great potential," Roth said. "We will be competing against the best-of-the-best.”

Games will be held at Indiana University against top teams from several states, including Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, Texas and California. Team members are Audrey Taylor of La Crescenta, Ivanna Bilaver of La Canada Flintridge, Lindsay Powell of Monrovia, Chloe Barrocas of Monrovia, Kaitlynne Navarro of Monrovia, Kira O’Donell of Temple City, Georgia Bogle of Pasadena, Kathryn McCullough of San Gabriel, Maggie Ireland of San Gabriel and Annah Brice of Los Angeles.

“We can hardly contain our excitement but it’s important now that we stay focused and work even harder during practice to prepare for the Championships,” said Georgia Bogle, a two-year member of the girls water polo team.

“I am so honored to be a part of this team and I look forward to competing with this amazing group of talented girls. Indiana better be ready for us!”
