Torres and the San Gabriel Valley Babe Ruth 18-under all-star baseball team begin WS play Aug. 6.

As the San Gabriel Valley Babe Ruth 18-under All-Star team prepares for its trip to Ephrata, Wash., for the Babe Ruth World Series, Montrose Patch caught up with head coach Phil Torres during Tuesday's practice at Glendora High School.

In addition to Torres, who also coaches the Crescenta Valley varsity baseball team, the all-star squad boasts plenty of other ties to the Falcon program. On the team's roster are Eliott Surrey, Kyle Murray, Troy Mulcahey, Ted Boeke, Troy Prasertsit, Cameron Silva and Joe Torres.

Phil Torres will be looking to win his fourth World Series as coach of the SGV All-Stars; his last championship came in 2007.

San Gabriel Valley capped an undefeated run through the Pacific Southwest Regional tournament at Modesto Christian High School with a SGV begins its quest for a championship Aug. 6 against Syracuse, N.Y. at 11 a.m. in the World Series opener.

They must finish in at least third place in pool play in order to move on to the single elimination bracket round, which begins Aug. 11, with the finals on Aug. 13.
