Key to Awesomeness:

Liam Huber is this year’s recipient of Rosemont Middle School’s prestigious Lois Neil Literature Award. This award goes to the student that teachers and staff believe to have outstanding talent in the field of writing.

“Writing is Liam’s hobby,” said his mother Nancy Learmonth. “When he has free time, he doesn’t sit down in front of a video game. He sits down and writes.”

“Writing is something I love doing,” said Huber. “It comes naturally to me. It’s really a creative outlet.”

Huber is not a fan of outlines and rough drafts. He prefers the creativity of stream-of-consciousness writing. Then he revises and revises until it sounds just right. Huber loves writing so much that he's written a book: a science fiction novel with aliens set in outer space. The title is still a secret. “It needs revisions before it’s ready for the publisher,” said Huber. “I’ve been working on it for years.”

Accomplishments:

Huber was chosen to deliver the Rosemont eighth grade promotion ceremony’s farewell speech. Amusing memories of fire alarms and a theme of optimism comprised a unique speech that won over the audience, kids and adults alike. Huber also received the Perfect Citizenship Award and Straight A’s Award. One of his strategies for getting all A’s is to put a lot of time and effort into classroom projects. “It’s another creative outlet for me,” explained Huber. And what is creativity to Huber?  “Thinking of things that haven’t been thought of before. That’s one reason I like to write fiction.”

Bonus Info:

Huber’s career goals include writing and publishing works of fiction. But he is also interested in drama, visual art and the sciences, particularly biology.

Huber has had works of literature and photography advance to the state level in the PTA Reflections competition. He's also the senior patrol officer in Boy Scout Troop 319, planning and running the meetings.
