Whiz Kid Caroline Artime is Sew Involved

Artime combines her love of fashion and her heart of gold to bring cute clothes to the world.

  • Whiz Kid's Name/Age: Caroline Artime, 17
  • Whiz Kid's School:
  • Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Caroline Artime has turned her skills at the sewing machine to good use making dresses for little girls in Africa.  “The dresses are made from pillow cases,” Artime explains, “and are sent to girls all over Africa to keep them clean and safe from men and the environment around them.” Next month Artime will host a workshop where girls from her youth group at Glendale Presbyterian Church can come together and sew more dresses.  “I hope to continue doing this for a while,” she says.  “I think it’s really important.”
  • Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness:  “My grandmother taught me to sew when I was four years old,” she notes. For as long as she can remember she’s been interested in clothing and design.  In order to share her love of fashion with the world, she and her best friend, Katie Szabados, started a blog called Legit Fashion. Her sister, Rachel, an aspiring photographer, provides the visuals. They are high school girls with a passion for fashion and a desire to share their thoughts on trends, fads and fashion no-no’s. “It’s recently taken off!”  she beams. They have over 6,000 readers from all over the world and have been contacted by other fashion blogs and clothing companies, such as Free People.
  • Bonus Whiz Kid Info: Artime and Szabados have great plans for their little fashion blog.  “We hope to include local businesses and host a fashion show,” says Artime.  “We're even planning on coming out with our own line of t-shirts and bags in the near future.” Artime is looking into attending the Savannah College of Art and Design,  but it sounds like this young entrepreneur is getting great real-world experience right now.
