Whiz Kid’s Key to Awesomeness: Sixteen-year old Allison Potter was busy doing research for a project to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award when she came across the story of Beverly Cater, a woman who had seen photos of babies in Guatemala who needed pinless diapers to prevent infection. Carter came up with a diaper pattern and made over 100 to send to them. Potter was inspired by Carter's actions; “I was really impressed that [Carter] could just see a problem in the world and come up with a way to fix it.” From there, Potter knew she wanted to get involved.

Whiz Kid's Accomplishments: Potter established a goal of sending 80 handmade diapers to Guatemala, and she is well on her way to reaching it. She has been raising the necessary funds by recycling cans and bottles and has organized three sewing days at the . The first sewing day was a great success and, at approximately an hour per diaper, she’s up to 25 completed ones. “Everyone has been really supportive of the project and I am so grateful for their help,” says Potter. “Still, there isn't a day where I don't spent [time] planning something out or getting in contact with someone. I didn't realize how much effort and time goes into doing a project like this.”

Bonus Whiz Kid Info:  Potter’s determination serves her well on the cross country team at CV High, too. This is her third year running on the track team. She is also proud to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “As much effort as I have put into my Gold Award project and running cross country,” says Potter, “I put double into living my life the way Christ would like me to.”
