La Canada Unified to Discuss Transfer of Glendale Unified Students Tuesday Night

The district has long advocated for La Canada students in Glendale Unified to be moved back into LCUSD.

At Tuesday night's meeting, the La Canada Unified School District will discuss passing a measure of support for transferring a school under Glendale Unified jurisdiction into LCUSD's control.

The district in Western La Canada Flintridge, known as "Sagebrush," has children on one side of the street attend LCUSD schools and La Canada students on the others in Glendale Unified schools.

Making the change would require an agreement between the two districts.

According to the Pasadena Star-News, which covered the issue at a June LCUSD meeting, the students in Glendale Unified would go into the Palm Crest Elementary school

One Montrose Patch reader raised concerns in a post in the calendar section about what that would mean for Mountain View Elementary, the Glendale Unified school where La Canada students are currently assigned:

Hi Neighbors/Friends, I thought you may be interested in this La Canada resident’s proposal to place ½ ofMountain Avenue’s kids into Palm Crest.  Currently Mtn Ave students are about ½ La Crescenta & ½ LaCanada residents (some Montrose too).

The board's proclamation  which can be read in full here, cites declining LCUSD enrollment as one key reason to make the change and also makes the case that all La Canada residents should have the opportunity to attend LCUSD schools.

Patch asks: Would you be concerned to see the Sagebrush students go back into LCUSD schools?  Do you think it would be a problem for Mountain Elementary?
