Addiction Summit 2011: "Substance Abuse Treatment: Taking a Medical and Mental Health Holistic Approach Now!"

Students in the Glendale Community College Alcohol/Drug Studies Program and the Alcohol/Drug Studies Club are sponsoring Addiction Summit 2011: “Substance Abuse Treatment: Taking a Medical and Mental Health Holistic Approach Now!” on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will feature a keynote speaker and breakout sessions with an emphasis on advances in addiction treatment.  The summit is free and open to the public. 

Dr. H. Westley Clark, Director of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the keynote speaker.  His presentation will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Auditorium.

Clark leads the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment in the agency’s national effort to provide effective and accessible treatment for all Americans with addictive disorders.  He was the former chief of the Associated Substance Abuse Programs at the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Francisco and a former associate clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California at San Francisco.  He has received numerous awards including the 2008 President of the United States Rank of Distinguished Executive Award in recognition of his personal commitment to excellence in government and public service. 

There will be breakout sessions held in the Student Center following the keynote speaker’s presentation.
