2011 Test Scores: How Did Your Kid's School Do?

The Department of Education released its 2011 California Standards Tests (CSTs) scores on Aug. 15. The results are here.

The state released the California Standards Tests (CSTs) test scores were last week and the results are in for Glendale Unified School District. 

Patch caught up with Dr. Katherine Thorossian, the assistant superintendent of the Glendale Unified School District. Speaking of the district at large, she said "It looks like there's been improvement overall in language arts and math. On the whole they did very well, in terms of the percent proficient and advanced in every curricular area."

In terms of how Crescenta Valley Schools did in relation to other schools in the district, Thorossian explained "We tend not to rank the student because it provides a skewed picture. Everybody is looking for is a personal best; where were we last year and how much have we grown."

Over the next few weeks, school officials will continue to process the data in an effort to figure out "where we're going to target our instruction for next year as a a district. [Asking] how did we do, where are the greatest gains, and where can we move forward?" explained Thorossian.

At , Thorossian's assessment proves correct, with most students scoring as either advanced or proficient, except for algebra, where only 4% were proficient and no students were advanced. The scores shook out as follows:

Language Arts

  • Advanced: 45%
  • Proficient: 32%
  • Basic: 17%
  • Below Basic: 4%
  • Far Below Basic:3%

U.S. History

  • Advanced: 48%
  • Proficient: 32%
  • Basic: 12%
  • Below Basic: 4%
  • Far Below Basic:4%

Algebra

  • Advanced: 0%
  • Proficient: 4%
  • Basic: 48%
  • Below Basic: 20%
  • Far Below Basic: 28%

Biology

  • Advanced: 50%
  • Proficient: 31%
  • Basic: 14%
  • Below Basic: 3%
  • Far Below Basic: 2%

Chemistry

  • Advanced: 32%
  • Proficient: 13%
  • Basic: 36%
  • Below Basic: 13%
  • Far Below Basic: 5%

Parents and students can access the compllete data on all schools in the district through the California State Department of Education's site. The results can be searched by school, grade level and subject.
