Several La Crescenta Homes Expect Power Tuesday Night

Montrose Patch talked to Crescenta Valley Town Council President Cheryl Davis for a power outage update, how Crescenta Valley Water District handled the outage, how to report damages and what to do with extra debris.

Several families in the La Crescenta area remain without power, according to Crescenta Valley Town Council President Cheryl Davis.

“Because it’s day six, I’ve gotten a couple calls and a couple of emails,” Davis told Montrose Patch. “But I know that Edison has called some of the individuals [still without power] and given them an estimated restoration time.”

Davis said the 2400 block of Francis Avenue, near , is expected to have power restored about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

No damage estimates for La Crescenta are known yet, Davis said.

Davis watched Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting online and said the supervisors showed strong dissatisfaction with Southern California Edison’s response to the outages.

“[The board] didn’t sound very happy with their emergency preparedness,” Davis said. “[Edison has] communicated a couple of times with me. We weren’t as hard hit as Altadena, Monrovia and Arcadia. They were really hit hard.”

The Crescenta Valley Water District Continues Pumping Water During Outage

The Crescenta Valley Water District quietly worked away to provide locals with water, even while the district operated without electricity, Davis said.

No CVWD customers ever lost water and the sewer system had no problems during the windstorm, Dennis Erdman, General Manager of Crescenta Valley Water District told the CV Town Council in an email.

“The district's investment in emergency generators made this possible,” Erdman said. “The intertie with the City of Glendale was also put into service and we are grateful for the water they provided for two days during the emergency.”

It was also easier to keep the reservoir levels from falling because of low demand for water in the area, Erdman said. In addition, the CVWD contracted an additional unit to power the office and keep telephone and Internet communication in service, he said.

Power was restored Thursday so Glendale power restored the wells and booster pumps at the water treatment plants, Erdman said. For three days, CVWD was also staffed for 24-hours.

How to report damages to Los Angeles County

County residents who have incurred damages are encouraged to call 2-1-1 (or 800-980-4990) to report damages as a result of the windstorm, according to Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich.

In addition, property owners who suffered damage to vehicles, homes or other property caused by fallen trees or tree limbs should contact their private insurers for the proper handling of claims, according to a release from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.

What to do with tree debris

La Crescenta and Montrose locals can continue using their large green waste bins for smaller tree debris and contact the waste hauler to arrange additional pick ups on the regular trash day.

Residents can call Allied Waste Services at (888) 742-5234 for additional service and drop off debris Saturday, Dec. 10 and Sunday, Dec. 11 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The county and local waste companies cannot collect palm tree branches, bamboo, soil, painted or treated wood in green waste bins.

“The removal and clearing of tree waste or green debris that is not in the public right of way is the responsibility of private property owners,” according to a release from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. “Waste and debris should not be dumped in public rights of way or flood control channels."
