It's unclear who painted the , but the city's crystal clear about cleaning it before it breeds additional graffiti.
Arabo Parseghian, management analyst for the City of La Cañada Flintridge Public Works Department, expects crews to have the spray-painted invitation cleaned before the end of the day Friday, he said Thursday. Scrawled in black paint across two rocks in Cherry Canyon, the word "Prom,'' followed by a question mark, showed up recently on the Owl Trail.
"This is the first we’ve seen of graffiti on the trail,'' he said, noting the city did not contact the sheriff's department,, as the damage was not so significant as to warrant a report. City officials were alerted to the vandalism after local media published a story about a hiker who spotted the unwelcome invitation on her morning walk.
