Parking 'For Sale' Cars on Streets Could Be Banned

The Board of Supervisors intends to ban parking vehicles for sale on certain streets in unincorporated areas.

The L.A. County Board of Supervisors, who oversees Montrose and La Crescenta, intends to ban parking cars and trucks for sale on certain streets to attract attention from potential buyers.

Supervisor Gloria Molina recommended the ban. Molina said that “for sale” signs in vehicles are a hazard to pedestrians and drivers alike: they encourage jaywalking, double parking, block traffic, limit parking in nearby lots, encourage illegal vendors to congregate and encourage trash dumping and drug and alcohol use. Molina compared certain streets where this is a common practice to parking lots.

A county ordinance banning “for sale” vehicles from being parked on streets already exists, but is not enforced because similar laws in other cities have been deemed unconstitutional.

The ordinance would not apply to every street in Montrose, La Crescenta and other unincorporated areas. Rather, it would target specific streets. The Board of Supervisors believe their ordinance is specific enough that it will be enforced.

A representative for Supervisor Michael Antonovich, who represents Montrose and La Crescenta, could not be reached this morning.
