Open House: U.S. Forest Service Headquarters

The U.S. Forest Service's new Angeles Forest headquarters is now open for business.

Correction: An earlier version of the story said the open house was Wednesday. It is Tuesday.

The United States Forest Service will hold an open house and dedication ceremony for its new Angeles National Forest headquarters Tuesday, Dec. 11.

The campus boasts an environmentally-friendly administrative building and a 24,000-square-foot Supervisor’s Office that houses more than 80 employees.

The building's “green” features include a dry creek and retention pond for recycling rainwater, solar panels and natural lighting through vaulted clerestory windows. The facility will also receive energy credits from the companion “net zero” energy project in San Dimas.

Forest Service officials say they hope the new headquarters will soon receive the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification.

 If You Go:

  • The U.S. Forest Service Angeles National Forest headquarters is at 701 N. Santa Anita Ave. in Arcadia.
  • Check-in begins at 2 p.m., with the dedication ceremony starting at 2:30 p.m. The open house concludes at 7 p.m.
  • Speakers will include U.S. Forest Service Deputy Chief Leslie Weldon, regional forester Randy Moore and Angeles National Forest Supervisor Thomas Contreras.
  • Smokey Bear is scheduled to make an appearance.
