Officials Eyeing Another Water Rate Increase

If approved, rates would increase by 6.9 percent, on top of rate increases from last year.

Officials at the Crescenta Valley Water District are planning to raise water rates again, in a move they expect to generate a public backlash.

The board is expected to continue discussion Tuesday on the nearly 7 percent increase and eventually vote on a proposal, which would be mailed to customers. More discussion would be planned and a final vote will take place with the increase taking effect in July, according to the Crescenta Valley Sun.

Officials are planning many upgrades and improvements to what they call an aging infrastructure. Improvements include the repair of a water main, replacement of two goundwater wells, installing a chlorination system, upgrading a data system and more.

Kerry Erickson, district board member, expects a negative response from customers.

"They're not going to be happy," he said. "We've already had a number of raises."
