Meeting on Hahamongna Field, Trail Project to be Held Wednesday

A sports field project that has long drawn opposition from local environmental advocates is about to enter the state-required environmental planning process. An informational meeting on the project is scheduled for Wednesday.

The City of Pasadena will be holding an informational meeting Wednesday night on a project in the nearby Hahamongna Watershed Park that will include building a sports field and a new trail.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at Pasadena City Yards, 2nd floor Large Conference Room.

The projects have been criticized in the past for eating into open space areas in the park - the sports field was approved by the Pasadena City Council at a contentious meeting in 2010 where many people spoke out against it.  The Council decided at that time to scale back the original plan, which included two sports fields.

The flyer posted on right shows the location of the field.  The trail project is highlighted in red.  The city also lists habitat restoration and a portion of the "Berkshire Creek Project" as being part of the project.  No other information is available on the city's website.

The project is separate from the , though Pasadena is considering using sediment from the dam to help fill in the sports field area.

Though the park is immediately adjacent to La Canada Flintridge on the westside and Altadena on the eastside, the City of Pasadena owns the bulk of the land in the park.

Below is more information on Wednesday's meeting, as well as two follow up meetings that will be part of the project's state-required environmental work.
