K-Rail Removal Planned in La Crescenta

Los Angeles County Department of Public Works will remove the concrete barriers--k-rails--that kept mudflows from piling onto foothill homes following the 2009 Station Fire.

The concrete barriers lining Pineglen Road and surrounding foothill homes became public art locations and protectors from debris flow following the 2009 Station Fire. Friday the k-rails will be removed.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works will remove storm k-rails along Pineglen Road/Briggs Terrace area Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"When we came into your community we said we want to put in some protective measures for the next 3 to 5 years," said Chris Stone of Los Angeles County Public Works said during a Crescenta Valley Town Council meeting in May.

Upper portions of Canyonside k-rails will stay for about a year, Stone said.

Removal will begin Friday with crews completing by June 15, Stone said. The sand bags and street cleanings will happen within a week of the k-rail removal.

K-rails near Pennsylvania will be removed only by city of Glendale, according to Stone, who did not know the date for that project.

I feel bad that teachers are having to pull money out of their own pockets, I wonder whateverRead More happened to the lottery money that was supposed to go to schools? I am a volunteer for an organization that offers free drug education kits to any teacher with booklets on the various harmful drugs . Educators play a vital role for our children and in society and should be supported in any way possible. Any who might be interested, e-mail me at tbadger2000@yahoo.com.
