CV Town Council Holding Public Hearing About Big Rigs Parked on 210 Overpasses

Nearby cities have restrictions on big rig parking, but unincorporated La Crescenta-Montrose does not. (Photo credit: Craig Clough)

If you have noticed the big rigs parked on overpasses along the 210 Freeway in La Crescenta-Montrose and wondered why they are there, you are not alone. Numerous local residents and leaders have expressed concern, calling them major eyesores.

As a result, the Crescenta Valley Town Council will be holding a hearing Thursday on whether big rigs should be allowed to park on and under overpasses in La Crescenta-Montrose, and is collecting public input via a poll on its website.

The Town Council site notes that La Canada Flintridge, Glendale, Sunland-Tujunga and Burbank all have restrictions on big rig parking, making unincorporated La Crescenta-Montrose the only place for big rig drivers to park in the area to avoid a ticket.

A Patch editor went driving around Tuesday looking for big rigs parked on overpasses and found quite a few, particularly on the Rosemont Avenue bridge and Ramsdell Avenue bridge. One big rig on Rosemont had graffiti sprayed all over it (see attached photo.)

We apparently weren't the only one that noticed the graffitied big rig, as reader C.B. posted a photo today of the same big rig, saying, "If this doesn't bring down my property value, I don't know what would. This truck, with a company name of Marques Transportation Inc, with an address in Sunland, has been parked here by my house for 4 days now. His company is close enough for him to park at his business. I just love seeing the graffiti. I feel like I live in an industrial area. Maybe I should request money back from my taxes."

The meeting is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library at 2809 Foothill Blvd.
