Construction Begins at LA County's First Off-Leash Dog Park

Construction began on Nov. 28 for the Crescenta Valley Dog Park in La Crescenta, the county's first off-leash dog park. Depending on the rain, the park could be complete in April 2012.

Dogs will soon have a place to run wild and free in La Crescenta at the first off-leash dog park in Los Angeles County.

Construction was slated for August, but safety measures stalled construction until Nov. 28, according to CV Town Council President Cheryl Davis. Depending on the amount of rain this winter, the estimated date for the park is April 2012.

"I am really looking forward to the dog park," Davis told Patch. "Since they started on Nov. 28, I go every Saturday to take a picture.

The dog park will be located in the northwest section of Crescenta Valley Park, with decomposed granite and wood chip surfacing. It will also feature two entryways leading to separate areas for small and large dogs. There will also be drinking fountains and water faucets for thirsty pooches.

All features will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Other reported features include a 6-foot-high chain link fence, benches and shade coverings.

“I know there’s going to be a hose-off area; in case your dog is going to get dirty, you can hose them off before you get in the car,” Davis told Patch in September.

"The dog park is very important to local dog owners as it's a place to exercise and socialize their dogs, as well as socialize with other owners," Davis said.
