The Montrose Shopping Park Association and Glendale city planners are bringing bike racks to Montrose. The number of racks and locations are not yet decided.

Glendale planners are working with the to figure out how many bicycle racks will serve Montrose wheels.

“Bicycles and cycling in the city of Glendale is really hot right now,”  Fred Zohrehvand, Glendale Planner, said during the Montrose Shopping Park Association meeting Thursday morning at .

No exact number or specific locations are determined yet, but an order of about 120 bike racks for the city of Glendale will have plenty to bring to Montrose in part of the Glendale Bicycle Master Plan, Zohrehvand said.

The city pays for the bike racks with about $400,000 from state and county grants that will be received in the next three years, combining with additional funding from the city's transportation division.

The bike racks will be the same style and size as the racks along Glenoaks Boulevard, Brand Boulevard and Broadway in Glendale.

"I'd like to put as many as I can because I know there's a very high demand on Oceanview Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue but you have to conscious of the merchants," Zohrehvand said.

The next batch of bike racks, about 200 of them, will be ordered around December for other locations in Glendale, Zohrehvand said. They are bolted into the cement and could even be along Foothill Boulevard in the future.

Anybody on the MPSA or in the community can request locations for bike racks.
