Updated: Manoukian, Weaver Hold Leads for Council Seats; Measure S Passes

Only provisional and absentee votes remain to be counted.

Update: Tom Lorenzo, the public information officer for Glendale, reported to Patch that there remain exactly 3,153 ballots to be processed which include Vote by Mail and provisional ballots.

"Processing these ballots," he explained, "includes verification of signatures with County Registrar/Recorder records, duplication, and the review of disqualifying requirements of a ballot per the California Elections Code.  Following verification, the qualifying ballots will be counted subsequent to the reconciliation of the voting records for Election Day per the California Elections Code.”

Official results are slated to come on Arpil 18. Until then, the results on GlendaleVotes.org remain unofficial. Should you have any questions, direct them to 818-548-4000.

Meanwhile, Measure S--which proposes to issue $270 million worth of bonds to be used toward Glendale Unified School District campuses, including those in Montrose and La Crescenta--appeared to have been approved by Glendale voters.

Over 20,000 voters turned out for the Glendale election April 5 from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday. Wednesday morning, City Clerk Ardy Kassakhian reported to Patch that approximately 3,000 provisional and absentee ballots remain to be counted throughout the next two weeks.

With 11,989 "yes" votes on Measure S, and only 5242 "no" votes, Measure S will definitely pass; even if 100 percent of absentee and provisional ballots were against Measure S, the affirmative votes will still trump those opposed.

Four men are still in the race for Glendale City Council: Rafi Manoukian (8,968 votes), Dave Weaver (8,883 votes), John Drayman (8806 votes) and Chahe Keuroghelian are still in the running for the two open City Council seats. Mike Mohill (1760 votes) and Garen Mailyan (1467 votes) no longer appear to have a chance to win.

For the Glendale Unified School District Governing Board, Nayiri Nahabedian leads the charge, with 9,323 votes. Mary Boger and Vahik Satoorian, with 7,875 and 6,496 votes respectively, are still in the race, however.

As for the Glendale Community College Board of Trustess, it was a close race; Vahe Peroomian has 11,335 votes cast in his favor, Tony Targaglia has 10, 968, and Vartan Gharpetian has 7,397. Though all three men have high numbers, Gharpetian is out of the race; even if all 3,000 absentee and provisional ballots were cast for Gharpetian, he couldn't beat Peroomian.
