$2.1m Tax Debt Traced to La Crescenta

One of the state's largest tax debts leads to Youssef Fahmy Gabra of George's Texaco, who keeps a La Crescenta P.O. box.

One of the largest delinquent state tax bills can be traced right to La Crescenta.

Youssef Fahmy Gabra, who is affiliated with George’s Texaco, owes the state of California $2,023,880.00 in unpaid taxes, according to state records. The bill dates back to July 25, 1995. Gabra’s contact information is listed as a P.O. box in La Crescenta. There is no phone number.

The Glendale News Press reported that Gabra filed for bankruptcy in 1996.

The State Board of Equalization posts a list quarterly of taxpayers who owe the state over $100,000. The list is intended to aid in getting the delinquents to pay up.

The state says that since the BOE began publicizing the names of delinquent taxpayers, $5.1 million of debt has been collected.

The BOE will remove names if the amounts owed are being addressed through payment arrangement, bankruptcy, litigation or appeal, according to the BOE website.
