What Was Up With the Sanitation Trucks, Police on the 2 Freeway Thursday?

The trucks were carrying narcotics designated to be destroyed, said an officer at the Los Angeles Police Department.

Commuters and readers noticed at least a dozen unmarked police cars escorting sanitation trucks on the northbound 2 Freeway Thursday morning. Patch called up the Los Angeles Police Department and was told that the truck was actually carrying narcotics headed for destruction.

"It's kind of like seeing Santa Claus, sometimes, when people notice," said an officer at LAPD media relations, who added that the starting point and the destination for the truck and its entourage are never disclosed. "We never tell anybody about it before, and we don't really talk about it much after."
