UA Theater Bans Costumes Following 'Dark Knight Rises' Massacre

In the wake of the Colorado massacre - in which 12 people died and 59 wounded - Regal Entertainment Group has instituted costume restrictions.

The Dark Knight Rises is playing at , but you will not be admitted if you're wearing a costume or your face is hidden, according to a Regal Entertainment Group spokesman.

Following Colorado's largest mass shooting in United States history Friday morning, Russ Nunley, Vice President of Marketing & Communications for Regal, wrote in an email to Patch, "Moviegoers should expect stricter controls over character attire and accessories at our theatres.''

Police say 24-year-old wore a gas mask and set off some kind of chemical device before spraying an Aurora movie theater with bullets from an AR 15 rifle, a shotgun and a handgun. Meanwhile, authorities are attempting to navigate Holmes' apartment, which they say is bobby trapped

The shooting rampage occurred at the midnight showing of the Warner Bros. Batman film, leaving theaters across the country scrambling to adjust dress codes and tighten security.

At United Artists, Nunley said any refunds will be handled as usual, upon guest request. He declined to discuss details regarding Regal Entertainment security.

The company issued the following statement: 

We are profoundly saddened by the tragedy that occurred at a Denver area theatre and are concerned for the victims and their families. The security and safety of our guests and staff is always our number one priority. As is our custom, we will continue to monitor the situation and adjust our security needs as necessary. In the meantime, our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.
