Transformer Explosion Knocks Out Power for La Cañada Homes

The explosion knocked out power for 170 La Cañada Flintridge customers and blocked off streets near Foothill Boulevard.

A transformer exploded Sunday night on Georgian Road, causing a power outage in the area that is also affecting La Cañada High School on Monday morning.

Georgian Road is being blocked off between Foothill and Richmond Monday morning as Southern California Edison crews are working on fixing the problem, according to Sheriff's Lt. Angela Shepherd of the Crescenta Valley Station.

Shepherd called the incident "a pretty, pretty, pretty good explosion" and said Edison crews had told the station it would be 12-24 hours to get fixed, meaning the outages could last up until Monday night.

According to the Edison outage map, an estimated 170 customers are affected by the ourage.
