Brian Anthony Marks, the 32-year-old Santa Monica man arrested this week on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at his home, charters flights for a private company at the Van Nuys Airport.
He posted $500,000 bail and was released from Santa Monica Jail shortly after his arrest Tuesday, according to Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis.
Police allege Marks had a sexual relationship with the girl and assaulted her "multiple times" from September until December, when her parents learned of the relationship and called the authorities. Marks and the girl allegedly met using a mobile text application similar to an online chatroom.
"[The parents] were doing what they were supposed to be doing,” Lewis said.
The assaults reportedly occurred at Marks' Santa Monica residence, where investigators executed a search warrant before taking him into custody. Investigators retrieved his cell phone and computer, Lewis said.
A LinkedIn profile for a Brian Marks in the greater Los Angeles area shows he attended Loyola Marymount University and worked for two years starting in 2008 at privately owned TWC Aviation. He is in training to become a private pilot, the profile states.
The Federal Aviation Administration's online database does not list Marks as a licensed pilot.
The police department is asking any potential victims to come forward. As of Friday afternoon, it had not received reports of any other assault victims. "And I hope that we don't," Lewis said.
Marks was booked on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.
