Update: Missing Hiker Answers Cell Phone, No Longer Lost

The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team and Montrose Search and Rescue are helping to search for the car of a hiker who was reported lost by his father. Authorities are uncertain where the missing person may have been hiking.

Update: While search and rescue teams continued to look for the hiker reported missing (who was apparently with one other hiker) Sgt. Cynthia Gonzales of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station decided to try calling the hiker's cell phone number.

He answered and told Gonzales that he and his companion had hiked out successfully - they had gotten lost on Sunday and ended up having to deciding to camp another night once it got dark.  They were able to find their way out and were back to their car by 11 a.m. or so, according to Gonzales.

Original: Local search and rescue teams, including the Altadena and Montrose Search and Rescue teams, are looking for a missing person who may have been hiking in Angeles National Forest.

The father of the missing person called authorities to tell them that his son may have been hiking in the area, according to Rich Deleon of the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team.

All of the trail heads in Altadena have been checked and the hiker's car has not been located there, according to Deleon.

The teams plan to next check the Chantry Flats area above Arcadia, according to Deleon.

Montrose Search and Rescue Team is still gathering information about the missing person, Sheriff's Reserve Chief Mike Leum told Patch.

Patch will update this story with more details as they become available.
