Runaway Truck Shears Power Pole in La Crescenta

About 2,000 Glendale Water & Power customers are without power.

A Ryder rental truck without a driver slammed into a power pole and knocked out power for about 2,000 customers, according to media reports.

The unoccupied truck rolled down Dunsmore Avenue, struck a power pole at Los Amigos Street and downed live electrical wires about 4 p.m., Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz told The Glendale News-Press.

Glendale firefighters put out a small fire near the crash, The News-Pres reported. No one was injured.

I was driving just ahead of that action yesterday and wondered what had happened. Wow! Police, fire trucks, paramedics, helicopters, the works! Also, the traffic signals were out from about Boston to about Pennsylvania on Foothill and Honolulu. That thing could have rolled all the way down to the Foothill/Dunsmore intersection. Yikes!

Since when does Los Amigos St. intersect with Dunsmore? Los Amigos St. runs east/west between Briggs and Rosemont. Dunsmore runs north/south between New York and Lauderdale.
