Anti-Stadium Violence Measure Passes Assembly

Assembly Bill 2464, the Improving Personal Safety at Stadiums Act, passed the Assembly, Thursday, by a unanimous 71-0 vote.

Authored by Montrose Assembly representative Mike Gatto, the bill was inspired by increased fan violence at pro stadiums,

The bill requires major league stadiums in California to post numbers for calls or texts to contact stadium security about fan violence.

The signs must be visible from the stands and in parking lots. 

In a press release Gatto says it is security--not police--who is best poised to put down violent incidents, since security is inside the stadium.

Like the beating of Giants fan Bryan Stow, and, said Gatto, could be stopped from escalating.

The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
