A 19-year-old man who was hired by a Glendale family to babysit through Sittercity.com was arrested on suspicion of sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10 years, according to the Glendale Police Department.

Jordan Liu of Alhambra was taken into custody by Glendale police on Tuesday, Nov. 22, according to Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz in a news release.

On Monday, Nov. 28, Liu was arraigned and faces charges of eight felony counts of sex acts, Lorenz said. Liu pled not guilty to these charges and remains jailed on $2.7 million bail.

Liu will appear in court on Jan. 5, 2012 in Burbank Superior Court, Lorenz said.

The investigation of Liu's alleged child molestation began on Friday, Nov. 11, when a Glendale woman reported that her 8-year-old son was victimized by a babysitter, according to Lorenz.

"The mother, out of concern for the safety of her child, stated that she discussed the Pennsylvania State University scandal with her 8-year-old son by reading an article from a news website," Lorenz said.

"The news article explained the sexual acts of oral copulation, inappropriate touching, rape and sodomy," Lorenz said. "It was not so much that she believed her son was a victim, but as a parent she was providing education and awareness. The mother soon learned that her 8-year-old son had been victimized by the babysitter."

The family told police that the babysitter worked with them for the past eight months and hired him through an Internet babysitting service, Sittercity.com, Lorenz said. The suspect took the child on outings at least once each month for the past eight months.

Sittercity.com, which provides sitters, nannies and parents an opportunity to connect, is cooperating in the Glendale police investigation, Lorenz said. The investigation also revealed that the suspect used another site, Care.com, to advertise Liu's  sitting services.

Glendale Police Detectives served search warrants, collected evidence and conducted interviews, Lorenz said. Detectives also received allegations of sexual assault on the victim’s 3-year-old brother.

Police urge anyone with any information or additional victims who were allegedly sexually assaulted by Liu to contact police immediately.

"The investigation indicates that he may have conversed with over 100 parents through the web service, but it is unknown how many actually may have hired him as a babysitter," Lorenz said.

Anyone with information related to Jordon Liu is asked to call Glendale Police Department detectives at 818-548-3106. To remain anonymous, call Glendale Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
