OSH Burglarized Again, Suspects Arrested

Two men allegedly stole trashcans, pool treatment and plants from Orchard Supply Hardware on May 30.

At 2:30 p.m. on May 30, while sitting in his vehicle for a break from work, an employee of at 3100 Foothill Blvd. allegedly saw two men taking trash cans that were for sale and loading them inside a black Cadillac Escalade... without paying for them. The employee also claimed to see the men going in and out of the store with a shopping cart containing different items, but was not sure if those items had been paid for.

The employee said that when he confronted the men, they ran out of the parking lot and east on Foothill Blvd. So, he contacted the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station, who detained two suspects along the 3000 block of Foothill Blvd. The employee was able to identify both of the suspects, who turned out to be 52-year-old James Peyton Collins of Glendale and 70-year-old Richard Carl Sibbrel of Bradbury, who is retired.

When police searched their Escalade, they found six OSH plastic trash cans valued at $15.99 each, a container of pool treatment worth $15, and several plants, according to the police report.

Collins reportedly told police that he didn’t steal anything and was not sure how the trashcans got into his vehicle, and that the plants and container of pool chlorine were from a different store. However, Collins was unable to provide the name of the store or a receipt for the items, according to the report.

Collins reportedly said that he only ran because he thought the employee confronting him was a process server.

Meanwhile, Sibbrel reportedly told deputies that he didn’t steal anything and had only accompanied Collins on his trip. Sibbrel said that he had no idea how the items were put into the car and that he ran because his friend told him somebody was after them, according to police.

Both men were arrested on burglary charges.

This is not the first time OSH has been burglarized this year: .
