One Motorcyclist Died, Another Injured in Sunday Wrecks on ACH

Both motorcycles went over the side of the Angeles Crest Highway in the Angeles National Forest.

One motorcyclist is dead and another injured after two wrecks on the Angeles Crest Highway Sunday afternoon, authorities said Monday.

Lt. Angela Shepherd of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said the fatality occurred at mile marker 57 of the Angeles Crest Highway, and the injury accident happened at mile marker 47.

Killed was a 35-year-old Fontana resident whose identity is pending release upon family notification, said Officer Chad Kaplan of the California Highway Patrol. The man was riding a 2007 Honda Motorcycle eastbound on State Route 2, west of Cloud Burst Summit at a high rate of speed, Kaplan said. The man failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and ran off the roadway onto paved asphalt shoulder.

The bike overturned and the man was ejected; both he and the motorcycle careened down a steep embankment. The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. In addition to the CHP, L.A. County Sheriff's Department, The U.S. Forest Service and L.A. County Fire Department responded.

As for the injury accident at mile marker 47, Kaplan said he does not have the information yet but will release it as soon as he receives it. Shepherd said the injured motocyclist also went over the side of the embankment.
