Officials to Investigate Safety of Angeles Crest Highway

Three deaths have occurred in just four weeks following the re-opening of the Angeles Crest Highway. Transportation officials are investigating whether changes need to be made to the highway.

Following the death of three people on the Angeles Crest Highway shortly after it re-opened, state transportation officials are launching an official investigation to see whether changes need to be made to increase the safety of the mountain highway, according to the Glendale News-Press.

"Officials will take a closer look at the factors involved in those deaths, including speed, location, vehicle type, weather and road conditions, as part of the investigation, said Maria Raptis, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation," reported the GNP.

"The investigation — which will also include a look at the highway’s signage, traffic volume and enforcement — could take up to two months, Raptis said, after which officials will make a determination on whether changes can be made to make the twisting mountain highway safer," reported the GNP.
