No Updates in Missing Sunland Woman Megan DiPiazza; Police Say Woman's Body Found in La Tuna Canyon Is Not Her

No one has seen or heard from DiPiazza since November of 2012.

Los Angeles County coroner's officials recently released an artist's sketch of a woman whose skeletal remains were found in February off La Tuna Canyon Road in Sunland.

After Patch posted the story and sketch, several readers asked if the woman's body could be missing Sunland woman Megan DiPiazza and if police had ruled it out. According to Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department, police concluded that the body did not belong to DiPiazza, who went missing on Nov. 11, 2012.

"We looked into it and we have no reason to believe it was her," Lorenz said. "There was also evidence found at the scene to indicate it was not her."

Lorenz said police have uncovered no new evidence or leads since Patch reported in May that the case was at a "standstill." The only update Lorenz gave was that her case had been reclassified from a "voluntary missing person" to "missing person."

DiPiazza, 33, disappeared Sunday, November 11, 2012. She reportedly had written a note "saying goodbye," authorities said, and the note was found at the bottom of a trash can. She was last seen in the La Crescenta/Sunland-Tujunga area, according to police.

DiPiazza, a Crescenta Valley High School graduate, was living alone in Sunland after separating from her husband. Her driver's license, debit card and phone were the only items missing from her apartment, and her car also disappeared.

DiPiazza vanished following an argument over the fate of their marriage, DiPiazza's husband, Sal DiPiazza, told Patch in November of 2012.

"They call this a voluntary missing person. But this is not a voluntary missing person to me," Sal DiPiazza said.

Megan is a mother to a 13-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son, he said.

"She can’t stay away from her child for more than a day without checking or calling," Sal DiPiazza said.

Investigators have not seen any activity on her bank account since her disappearance, Det. Alex Krikorian of the Glendale Police Department told Patch in May.

"The only thing we noticed missing was her driver’s license, her debit card and her phone. There were no clothes packed or any make up. So she literally must have had her license or ATM card in her pocket and grabbed her car and took off," Sal DiPiazza said.

Her vehicle is a gray 2013 Toyota Scion, license plate number 6XJR885, although her vehicle may not have any plates on it. DiPiazza has blond hair, green eyes, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 122 pounds. She has naturally curly hair.

"We've had no updates. We would have hoped for something," Lorenz said. "Sometimes in these missing person cases we never find out."
