Motorcyclist Hurt While Attempting to Evade Police

The pursuit began on the southbound Glendale (2) Freeway Sunday afternoon.

A motorcyclist was seriously injured tonight when he crashed his bike into a car while trying to evade police, according to a police sergeant.

The crash took place at about 1 p.m. near the intersection of Verdugo Road and Glorietta Avenue, according to Glendale police Sgt. Carlos Alpuerto.

We handled the crash investigation, but the motorcyclist was being chased by CHP units,'' Alpuerto said.

The chase, he said, began on the southbound Glendale (2) Freeway and had something to do with a license plate violation.

"The motorcyclist exited the freeway on Mountain and headed north,'' Alpuerto said. "He lost control of his bike and crashed into a car at Verdugo and Glorietta.''

The unidentified motorcyclist, Alpuerto said, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

California Highway Patrol Officer Cheyenne Quesada said CHP units from the Altadena station handled the pursuit, which was aborted just before the crash.

"He was going more than 100 miles per hour on surface streets; and it was just too dangerous, so our units backed off,'' Quesada said.

"The motorcyclist crashed into a BMW at that intersection and was taken to the hospital,'' Quesada said.

The incident remains under investigation by the CHP and the Glendale
police.
