UPDATED: Body Found in Hillsides is Missing Man

The body of 57-year-old Yoshiya Watanabe was found in the Glendale hillsides yesterday.

UPDATE Feb 8 7:46 a.m.: The Glendale Police Department has confirmed that the body found in the 1600 block of Glenoaks Boulevard in Glendale is Yoshiya Watanabe, the 57-year-old male who police were searching for.

''This appears to be a very unfortunate and tragic situation," said Sgt. Tom Lorenz in a statement. According to police, Watanabe suffered from memory loss, seizures, hypertension and diabetes. Detectives on the case said that they do not suspect foul play, but they are still waiting for an official cause of death by the L.A. County Coroner.

Watanabe was first reported missing on Thursday. His body was found a short distance from his vehicle.

UPDATE Feb 7 4:24pm: The LA County Coroner PIO said that the body of a 57-year-old Asian male was found in the hillsides of the 1600 block of Glenoaks Boulevard of Glendale. The identity of the body has not been released.

Feb 7 10:35 a.m.: Team has joined Glendale Police officers and Los Angeles County Sheriff's homicide detectives in an early morning search for a Rancho Palos Verdes man missing since Thursday.

K-9s and bloodhounds are hoofing the hills above Glendale, between Chevy Chase and Scholl canyons, looking for any sign of 57-year-old Yoshiya Watanabe, whose memory is impaired, said Glendale Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

Hikers found the man’s 2004 Mercedes Benz S-500 parked on a dirt road east of the canyon, Lorenz said.

Watanabe was last seen wearing blue plaid pajamas, a blue T-shirt with yellow accents, a black zippered wool jacket with a USA logo on the left side of his chest and Nike Athletic shoes.

According to the sheriff’s department, Watanabe suffers from seizures, hypertension and diabetes.
