Man Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Burglary at La Crescenta Home

A 23-year-old Canoga Park man was also arrested on suspicion of identity theft and possession of an injecting device, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

A 23-year-old Canoga Park man allegedly tried to break into a La Crescenta home and was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary, identity theft and possession of an injecting device, according to a report.

A resident reported a suspicious man wearing all black tried to open a kitchen door and was walking around a resident’s backyard in an attempted burglary about 5:50 a.m. on Dec. 13 in the 2400 Block of Teasley Avenue, near Briggs Avenue, authorities said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call and found Mel Zachary Jackman sitting in the driver’s seat of a black Honda, sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies conducted an interior search of the vehicle and allegedly discovered an opened zipper pouch containing syringes, a plastic straw, metal spoon and purple shoe lace.

“The pouch is known as a ‘kit.’ The term ‘kit’ is a common street term used by heroin users that use the kit to carry heroin paraphernalia,” deputies said in the report.

Deputies patted down the suspect and discovered he allegedly carried three licenses, a Kaiser card and two bank cards – all of which did not belong to the suspect. Deputies allegedly also found tin foil with black residue.

The suspect allegedly told deputies that he was looking for a  woman named ‘May’ who lived at the location.

“The suspect then added that he was waiting in the black Honda, for ‘May,’ because it was cold that morning,” according to the report.

Jackman apparently has two outstanding warrants totaling $50,555, deputies reported.
