Local Law Enforcement Event Highlights the Abuse of Pharmaceutical Drugs
Prescription Drug Take-Back Day allows residents to leave expired, unused, or unwanted medication with law enforcement.
The Los Angeles County Public Works Department will work with local law enforcement groups and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for the Fourth Annual Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 28.
The event hopes to highlight the abuse of pharmaceutical drugs and to educate residents on the correct disposal of expired, unwanted, or unused medications. Over 5,000 law enforcement sites from all over the United States will be participating as well. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., local law enforcement agencies will be available for proper disposal of pharmaceutical. The service is free and anonymous.
“With the continued support and hard work of our more than 3,945 state, local, and tribal law enforcement and community partners, these three events have dramatically reduced the risk of prescription drug diversion and abuse, and increased awareness of this critical public health issue,” remarked DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart on the National Take-Back Initiative website.
