iPhone Swiped from CVHS Gymnasium

A 19-year-old Tujunga man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of marijuana at Crescenta Valley High School last week.

A Tujunga man was arrested last week on suspicion of robbery and possession of marijuana after he allegedly stole an iPhone from the , officials said.

Brian Antonio Pineda, 19, attempted to flee on foot and was arrested at 5:10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16., according to a . 

Deputies responded to a fight call near the school and arrived to find Pineda allegedly clutching the iPhone while being detained by two men. A girl wearing a CVHS volleyball uniform pointed at the suspect and yelled to deputies, “He stole my phone.”

A school volleyball coach told deputies that he saw the suspect enter the gym and stop near a table where coaches and players leave their belongings during practices. He allegedly saw Pineda grab an iPhone from the table then run from the gym.

The coach and two other men ran after Pineda and attempted to detain the suspect by holding onto his shirt. Pineda allegedly took a swing at them and broke free before again being detained.

According to the witnesses, Pineda dropped the phone during the chase but stopped to pick it up.

Deputies read Pineda his rights and he allegedly agreed to speak without an attorney present, admitting to taking the phone. During a search, the suspect was found to be in possession of marijuana without a medical card or letter of recommendation.
