Investigators Search for Montrose Shooting Victims

Sheriff's deputies are looking for two men in a silver or gold minivan who left the scene where a Montrose man allegedly fired shots at them Tuesday.

A 50-year-old Montrose man is no longer in custody following a , sheriff's officials said. 

Daniel Kyung, 50, was taken into custody after someone reported shots fired in the 1900 block of Waltonia Drive about 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, said Sheriff's Sgt. Ray Harley of the Crescenta Valley Station. 

He was arrested and later booked on suspicion of shooting at an inhabited dwelling (or vehicle) and unlawful discharge of a firearm, officials said.

Deputies don’t know why Kyung was shooting or what his motive could be, Harley said. It's also unclear if Kyung knew the victims. 

The two men inside the vehicle fled while deputies were handling the allegedly armed suspect, Harley said. Investigators had brief contact with two men inside car, but the victims ended up leaving the area.

Investigators are attempting to locate the men to further investigate the shooting, Harley said. 

Neighbors did see the victims' vehicle in the area around the time of the shooting, Harley said. 

The van is described as silver or gold in color, although it was difficult for sheriff's deputies to see the color because it was dark, Harley said. 

Kyung will appear in Pasadena Municipal Court on May 10 at 8:30 a.m.
