Heavy Rain Could Continue Until Wednesday

Officials are urging residents to move their vehicles off the streets.

Montrose Shopping Park is soaked and cars driving along Foothill Blvd. are trekking through rain, rain and more rain. The is monitoring cars parked along the top of Ocean View Blvd. and urging residents to move their vehicles off the streets, according to the command watch officer.

The heaviest rain is expected to occur Saturday night into Sunday morning, and rainfall rates could reach a half-inch per hour, according to the National Weather Service. Three to six inches of rain and sustained wind gusts are expected in the foothills and there is also a potential for thunderstorms.

Residents are urged to use caution while driving and beware of flooding in underpasses and other low-lying areas, said the NWS weather alert.

The Station and other burn areas are at risk for debris flow due to the heavy rain and possible thunderstorms, and the NWS has issued a flash flood watch for burn areas through Sunday evening. 

Beginning 2 a.m. Sunday the Angeles Forest Hwy., Big Tujunga Canyon Rd. and Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Rd. will be closed to the public. The Department of Public Works will reopen the roads after the storm has cleared and officials have inspected the area for damage and debris. Residents will not be permitted to use these roads until they are officially reopened.

The storm will continue through Monday and according to the NWS and the Sheriff's Station, the rain could get worse by mid-week.

"The problem is going to be Tuesday and Wednesday," the command watch officer said.

There's also a possibility for a wet Christmas. An additional storm may happen over the holiday weekend, according to the NWS.
