Flash Flood on Crown Avenue Traps Motorists

Heavy rains flooded a block on Crown Avenue Thursday afternoon but no mudslides have been reported, according to a sheriff's official.

A flash flood trapped several motorists on Crown Avenue after a thunderstorm drenched the area Thursday afternoon, a sheriff's official said.

Heavy rains left more than 18 inches of water pooled in the 4600 block of Crown Avenue shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, said Lt. Brian Fitch of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station.

Fitch said two or three motorists were trapped by the water but their safety was never threatened.

"We had a couple people stuck in their cars because they didn't want to get wet, not because they were in any danger," Fitch said.

Deputies escorted the motorists from their cars and the water eventually abated, Fitch said. No debris flows were reported in the area, he said.
