Firefighters Knock Down 2 Fires Early Thursday

One of the two structure fires is under investigation for possible arson, authorities said.

Two blazes ignited in nearby La Cañada Thursday morning, one so close to that the firefighters smelled it in their dormitory. The other is being investigated as a possible arson.

Capt. Raymon Mitchison of Los Angeles County Fire told Patch that an outdoor shed fire started about 2:30 a.m. in the 4500 block of La Granada Way, and spread to an attached garage. Firefighters from Station 19 were on scene in a minute due to the proximity, he said.

"The house was very close to the station so they could smell smoke as soon as the alarm sounded,'' added Capt. Rick Bodmer from Station 19.

Forty-five minutes later, while authorities were still tending to the La Granada blaze, another fire ignited across town in the 4900 block Burgoyne Lane. Mitchison said it was "a suspicious fire,'' that was located outside, on the property. It is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Both fires were knocked down fairly quickly, he added, noting the La Granada Way fire caused some damage to the rear of the home.
