Firefighters Emerge Victorious in Hoop Heroes Tournament

This marks the Glendale Fire Department's second win in the annual charity basketball game.

The Glendale Fire Department proved its basketball prowess once again with a second win against the Glendale Police Department in the annual Hoop Heroes game at Glendale High School.

Although the score was tied at halftime, the firefighters soon overtook the police officers for a final score of 58-33. During the pre-game exhibition, the Glendale Noon Kiwanis defeated the Glendale Sunrise Rotary Club with a score of 96-79.

Hoop Heroes, now in its third year, raised $5,000 for the Salvation Army’s youth after-school programs, and attendees brought more than 200 pounds of canned goods to supplement the charity's food pantry.

“Even though my Rotarians were not victorious, the real winners were the...kids and the hungry in our community," event co-chair Rick Dinger said.

Hayden Dinger, son of Rick Dinger, collected more than 1,000 cans of tuna for the Hoop Heroes event.
