Beefed Up DUI Enforcement Yields 2,168 Arrests
Arrests happened during the "Avoid the 100" anti-DUI campaign.
A total of 2,168 people were arrested in Los Angeles County on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol during the 19-day holiday period and more sobriety checkpoints were held over the weekend.
The arrests were made during the "Avoid the 100" anti-DUI campaign between Dec. 14 and Jan. 1, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department statement.
The campaign's title refers to the 100 law enforcement agencies that participated in the countywide effort.

The 2012-13 total compares with 2,433 arrests made during the 17-day campaign a year ago, according to the sheriff's department.
Anti-DUI campaigns will also take place in the county on Super Bowl Sunday in February and during St. Patrick's Day celebrations in March, according to the department.
